Betsy is now retired and most recently worked at Hillis Clark Martin & Peterson in a position she held since 1973 when she first moved to Seattle from the East Coast. She spent a couple years as a legal secretary, then more than 20 years as a paralegal in the business practice, with forays into securities, ERISA, estate planning, probate, and trademark practice. For the last several years she has been responsible for information systems for the firm, doing training, programming, troubleshooting, web site maintenance, and applications analysis.
Betsy has a BA in French from a small Florida liberal arts college and knew nothing about the practice of law when she started working at Hillis. Before moving to Seattle, she worked as an actress, a computer programmer, and a teen counselor.
Betsy has been a member of WSPA since the mid 1980's and has been actively involved for a large portion of that time. She served as secretary for a few years in the late 1980s-early 1990s and again in 1999-2000. From 2000-2003 she was Membership Chair, and she has been Webmaster since 2000.
